Jessica Ennis Facts and Profile

Someone who is set to become a household name during the 2012 London Olympics is homegrown and rather hot athletics star Jessica Ennis. Ennis will be one of Team GB’s best hopes for track and field gold in London so if you want to learn more here’s some Jessica Ennis facts:

Sporting Discipline: Heptathlon, Pentathlon and 100m hurdles

Born: 23rd of January 1986 in Sheffield, England

Height: 5’5″ / 165cm

Weight: approx 9st / 128lbs

Jessica was unable to compete in the previous Olympics in Beijing 2008 where she would have been a medal contender due to injury. However, at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin she showed her true potential by taking gold in the Heptathlon.

Since then Jessica has won gold at the World Indoor Championships in 2010 (Pentathlon) then Sliver in 2012 plus gold at the 2010 European Championships and silver in the 2011 World Championships.

The heptathlon which Jessica will be competing in at the 2012 Games is made up of seven events: 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin and 800m so you certainly need to be a complete, well rounded and skilled athlete to be successful.

On the first day of the heptathlon the first four events are held with the last three taking place the following day.
