What is a Twinkie?

What is or what are Twinkies?

A Twinkie is a cake bar style snack which is mainly sold in the USA. Twinkies are officially classed as Golden Sponge Cakes with a Creamy Filling.

James Alexander Dewar first created the Twinkie in 1930 but after over 80 years of trading, in November 2012 the company which produces the popular snack, Hostess Brands declared it would be going out of business.

This is despite the Twinkie being an American icon in the world of snack foods.

Unless the brand is bought out by another company, Americans could see the end of this legendary soft creamy dessert.

Twinkies have been available to buy throughout the world in countries including the UK through specialist websites. These sites sell American products not normally on sale outside the US in countries around the world.
