Answer: Before it was covered by X Factor winner James Arthur, Impossible was first performed by female R&B vocalist Shontelle, full name Shontelle Layne.

Shontelle who like fellow R&B singer Rihanna was born in Barbados, released the track in February of 2010 where it achieved reasonable success.

Among other successes, the single reached number 9 in the UK charts and number 13 in the US Billboard Hot 100.

In December 2012, James Arthur released his cover version of Impossible as his UK X Factor ‘Winners Song’ on Simon Cowell’s Sony record label Syco.

This time the track achieved a UK number 1 chart position as well as reaching number 2 in Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland.
