Mark Webber Signs a One Year Contact Extension with Red Bull F1 Team

Red Bull F1 driver and winner of the British Grand Prix 2012 has now agreed a contract extension which will keep him with the current world champions until the end of the 2013 Formula One season.

It had been thought that Webber might be making a move to Ferrari next year to replace the out of form Felipe Massa, the Australian even admitting that talks had been held.

Despite this he decided it was best to stay put at Red Bull for at least one more season. This decision was no doubt influenced by his great recent run of results which see him in second place in the drivers standing ahead of his double world champion teammate  Sebastian Vettel.

This was perhaps also motivation for the team to get him signed up in order to increase their chances of keeping numbers 1 and 2 for a third season.

Webber has driven for Red Bull since 2007 and came very close to winning the driver championship in 2010, narrowly losing out to Vettel.

He struggled for most of 2011 only managing one win so it looked like he had missed out on his best chance to take the title.

However after his return to winning ways he now has a great opportunity to put that right in 2012.
