The American figure skater Dorothy Hamill won her gold medal at the 1976 Winter Olympics in the Austrian city of Innsbruck. Hamill won her gold in the ladies’ singles figure skating event.
The next month she took gold again, this time in the World Figure Skating Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden. Following this huge success Hamill then turned professional.
Dorothy Hamill was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 26, 1956.
In 2013 the now 56 year old was announced as one of the eleven celebrities competing on ABC’s reality show ‘Dancing with the Stars‘.
