At the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, the athlete who finished fourth in the men’s 100m race was American, Calvin Smith.

Having later tested positive for steroid use, the Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson was stripped of his medal two days after the race.

The updated results for the event were Carl Lewis first, Linford Christie second and Calvin Smith third.
