Who won the F1 Championship 2012?

Question: Who won the F1 Drivers Championship in the 2012 season?

Answer: The 2012 Formula One drivers title was taken by Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel who claimed his third championship in a row.

After being crowned F1 champion in 2010, 2011 and 2012 Vettel became the youngest ever driver to become a triple F1 champ at the age of just 25. This saw Vettel beating Ayrton Senna’s previous, long held record.

The German secured his 2012 title in the final race of the season in Sao Paulo, Brazil despite only finishing 6th. His only title rival going into Brazil, Fernando Alonso finished second in the race which was only enough for second in the championship.

Lotus-Renault’s Kimi Raikkonen finished the season in third despite only winning one race. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton finished the season in fourth with team-mate Jenson Button who won the last race in Brazil, fifth.

In the 2012 F1 constructors championship, Vettel’s team Red Bull also managed to win their third consecutive title with the help of Sebastian’s team-mate Mark Webber.

Perhaps in fitting fashion, the same race that saw Sebastian Vettel become a triple F1 champ also saw fellow German Michael Schumacher retire for the second time after three years back with the Mercedes team. One multiple German F1 champion handing over to another, his successor.
