Who won the World Road Race Championship 2013?

Question: Which cyclist won the Road Race title in 2013?

Answer: The World Championships which were held in Tuscany on Sunday, September 29 were won by Rui Costa. The Portuguese cyclist took the victory after only managing to get his bike in front, meters from the finish line.

In doing so, the 26 year old barley edged out Spain’s Joaquim Rodriguez who had to settle for second position. Spanish racer Alejandro Valverde rounded out the podium in third.

Notable by his absence from the winners list was the Tour de France’s reigning champion, Chris Froome. The British rider was forced to give up less than 100 km from home after failing to keep up with the pace of either the main group, or his team-mates.

Fellow Brit and Tour de France title holder Sir Bradley Wiggins, suffered a similar fate and also failed to complete the race.

Despite the adverse wet weather conditions, race winner Rui Costa finished the grueling 272.5 km long route in a time of 7:25:43.
