Answer: Season one of the critically acclaimed British period drama Downton Abbey was set amidst news of the sinking of RMS Titanic. The Titanic sank on the 14th of April, 1912.

Series one follows the characters lives from the time of this event up until the outbreak of The First World War, The Great War took place from 1914 to 1918.

Downton Abbey is set in a fictional English country estate starring among others Hugh Bonneville and Dame Maggie Smith.

The show is broadcast on ITV in the UK and in the United States on PBS.

At the time of writing this, Downton is currently in it’s third series.
